CA fire update: good news!

Yesterday was an amazing day of outreach to the families displaced by the Kincade Fire here north of San Francisco. A Red Cross worker told one of our chefs, "With your meal, the food is love. Everyone in this room felt the love that you put into this meal for us and for everyone in the shelter."

Because of the hot meals friends like you made possible, it was as if the entire atmosphere in the shelter changed. A downcast spirit was replaced with joy and thankfulness for God's provision. It's hard to describe what a difference it makes when those facing a natural disaster are greeted with a hot meal and generous portions. If people wanted seconds, we could give it to them. When kids wanted more mac and cheese, it was there for them. All because of friends like you.

The BEST NEWS of all is, while the wildfire threat is still very real here (there are currently 10 wildfires burning in California), the winds are dying down and the Kincade Fire is now 45% contained. Most of those in the area we are serving who were displaced will be returning to their homes over the next 24-48 hours.

Mercy Chefs is still providing hot meals today and into tomorrow. And with the wildfire threat still very real, we are taking steps so Mercy Chefs can be ready at a moment's notice as long as California continues to face an extreme fire danger. We can still use your help. Go here to make your tax-deductible gift to help provide hot meals to wildfire evacuees and continue other efforts.

Thank you so much for your prayers and your support!
