On the ground in Guatemala

Mercy Chefs is on the ground in Guatemala. We've begun partnering with two shelters in Santa Lucía being run by a coalition of pastors with help from the local government. Today and tomorrow, we will continue visiting shelters to determine how we can best help victims of last week's deadly eruption of Volcán de Fuego.

At the larger of the two shelters we're currently working with, we have committed to providing food, clothing, medicine and other resources needed to care for the hundreds of evacuees. A sugar-cane factory near this shelter has a commercial kitchen used for mass production to feed the company's workers. They've offered up their kitchen and staff of chefs to help provide relief!

Doctors are arriving to provide medical assessments at these shelters. Medicine donated by Mercy Chefs will help the doctors treat respiratory issues that have arisen due to the heavy amounts of volcanic ash in the air.

Shelters are mostly full of women and children. For the most part, the men are out doing what they can to provide for their families and find a more permanent solution. There's a big need for clean clothing in the shelters, especially for the children. The basics like underwear and clean socks are in high demand. Our team is trying to find a way to help meet that urgent need, too.

Please help us be part of the solution in Guatemala. Click here or on the link below to make a tax-deductible donation to Mercy Chefs' outreach efforts to victims of last week's Volcán de Fuego eruption:

Mercy Chefs is being very careful not to duplicate efforts. We want to provide the type of aid that's needed to spread relief to as many hurting evacuees as possible. The area is still in the midst of ongoing evacuations due to the threat of mudslides and flooding. Yesterday, 75 people were able to leave the shelter and return home. But as soon as they left, 12 newly evacuated families quickly took their place.

At one of the many roadblocks we came up against yesterday, the ground shook again. There is great fear here of another eruption, especially with 30 large volcanoes across this relatively small Central American nation. Please help us love and care for these precious men, women and children by partnering with us today to feed their body and soul. Click here to make a tax-deductible gift of any amount.

Mercy Chefs has deployed to Guatemala in the aftermath of a devastating volcanic eruption that buried entire communities in volcanic ash and killed approximately 200 people last week. Our team is doing everything possible to feed body and soul here, but we urgently need your help. Mercy Chefs will incur significant travel, housing and other expenses responding to Central America. So, your tax-deductible gift of $25 or $50 today would be greatly appreciated. Go here to make a tax-deductible donation of any amount to support Mercy Chefs' Guatemala outreach, as we continue other vital efforts.
