Preparing...

It's been a quiet hurricane season... so far.

The first major storm just developed (Earl) and it could reach Category Four, but thankfully it is spinning far out in the Atlantic.

Still, the conditions are ripe for the development of major tropical storms in both the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. Water temperatures in both the Atlantic and Gulf have been at or near record highs. The North Atlantic is extremely warm, and warm waters dominate the regions where hurricanes form.

So we could literally be experiencing the calm before the storms.

All this leaves me with a challenge...

A significant portion of the cost of every Mercy Chefs disaster response is incurred before we ever deploy. Those costs include reconditioning our equipment, purchasing new equipment, and then purchasing in advance as much of the food and other products that we will need.

Getting everything we need during disaster deployments has become more and more challenging with the recent disruptions in supply lines. That's why earlier this year we secured warehouse space in the southeast so we can purchase as much dry foods and resources as we can in advance of major deployments.

On top of all this, the cost of groceries has increased dramatically in the past year. This increased cost makes it even more important that we purchase as much as we can in advance of major deployments.

Here's my challenge...

With peak hurricane season now upon us, I'm asking friends like you to help us by effectively pre-sponsoring the first 10,000 meals we'll be serving during disasters this fall. That means we need to raise $35,000 before our next deployment.

Would you help by sponsoring 10, 20, 50 or 100 meals right now as we get ready for peak hurricane season? Go here to make your tax-deductible gift:

In a real way, your gift before we deploy is worth two or three times as much in impact because of how difficult (and expensive) it is to get food and supplies once we deploy.

Will you prayerfully consider becoming part of our pre-deployment team by sponsoring meals today for the peak hurricane season that is now upon us?

Thank you so much for your partnership, and your consideration. And God bless!

Gary LeBlanc, Mercy Chefs

P.S. I want to be ready for whatever comes in the next few weeks. But to do so, I need your help. Perhaps the Lord has blessed you and you want to be on the leading edge of everything we'll do this fall. Then consider making a special gift of $500, $1,000 or more. Of course, every gift will help. Thanks in advance, and go here to help:
